Quilling

Learn the basic techniques of paper quilling.

Supplies

• Quilling tool (Quilled Creations tool used here)
  
• 1/4" x 11" strips of quilling paper or copy paper
  
• Mini glue dots
  
• Liquid glue
  
• Cardstock and embellishments

Step-by-Step

1. Step 1

   Insert one end of the copy paper or quilling paper into the slot in the quilling tool.
   

2. Step 2

   Slide the tool as close to the end of the paper strip as possible and begin rolling the paper around the tool.
   

3. Step 3

   Keep pressure on the coil of paper while rolling it to keep the coil tight and even.
   

4. Step 4

   When you come to the end of the paper strip, keep pressure on the coil.
   

5. Step 5

   Gently slide the coil off the quilling tool, keeping pressure on the paper.
   

6. Step 6

   Relax your grip a bit to let the coil expand to the size you want.
   

7. Step 7

   Where the cut tail of the paper is, pinch the shape to form a point. Adjust the "eye" of the coil to the desired position before crimping a point into the paper. Be sure the tail lines up with the point.
   

8. Step 8

   This is what your quilled petal will look like before you glue the tail down.
   

9. Step 9

   Add a little liquid glue to the tail and glue it to the quilled shape, lining up the edges carefully.
   

10. Step 10

    Pick up a mini glue dot with the "eye" portion of the the quilled shape.
    

11. Step 11

    Adhere the quilled shape to cardstock.
    

12. Step 12

    Use the quilled shape on a completed card.

How To Make A Quilted Card

Quilted Card

Create a quilt top card front.

Supplies

• Scissors
• Grid paper
• Paper cutter, or 3/4" square punch
• Two different types of Patterned paper
• Three pieces of different colored cardstock
• Double-sided tape or glue

Step-by-Step

1. Step 1

   Take two pieces of patterned paper and three sheets of cardstock and cut one strip from each of them. The strips should measure 5 3/4" x 3/4".
   

2. Step 2

   Cut the 5 3/4" x 3/4" strips into 3/4" squares. 
   
   Variation:
   If you have a 3/4" square punch, punch eight squares from each paper.
   
3. You should have 40 squares cut, however you will not need all 40. So don't worry if you are short.
   

4. Step 3

   You can use this diagram as a reference at any time. 
   
   Now that you have decided where your squares will go, let's get them organized a bit!
   
   Starting with the patterned paper which will be the four corners of the outer quilt, count out 8 squares. Four of them are for the four corners of the outer quilt, and four of them are for the inner corners of the quilt. 
   • Now, choose the paper for the outer points of the star. Count out 4 squares and put them to the side.
   • Next, decide which paper you will use for the points of the star. Then count out 5 of those squares and set those to the side.
   • Once you have chosen the color for your inner star, count out 4 squares and put them to the side.
   • Now you should have a total of 25 squares for your quilt. 
   

5. Step 4

   Take all 4 of the 5 squares you set aside for the points of the star and cut those 4 squares in half, leaving one whole square remaining.
   

6. Step 5

   Take the 4 squares set aside for the outer points of the star, and cut all 4 in half.
   

7. Step 6

   To begin making the quilt - take 1 of the 8 squares you chose for the outer and inner corners of the quilt, add adhesive and gluethem down onto the grid paper, keeping it as straight as possible
   
8. This is what it should look like.
   

9. Step 7

   Now you will use the half square for your first point of star. Be sure to adhere it as closely as possible to that first corner piece. Continue with the outer point of star, and adhere that as well.
   

10. Step 8

    Adhere a square for the outer star. If at any point you get confused, don’t hesitate to look above at the diagram.
    
    After the first row is complete, the best route to go is up. Start from that first corner and work your way up.
    

11. Step 9

    After the two rows are complete, you should have what looks like an “L” shape. Starting from the inside corner of the “L” adhere one of the inner corners as shown here.
    

12. Step 10

    Continue to make another “L” shape following the pattern above. You should already start to see your pattern come to life… Neat, right?
    

13. Step 11

    After you have finished your second, “L” you will now need the square for the center of the star. This is the square left over from the points of the star. Continue to adhere the pattern, moving towards the right.
    

14. Step 12

    Now you will need to work your way back up again.
    
    

15. Step 13

    Continue to use up leftover squares to complete the paper quilt, following the pattern above.
    
    You may have some uneven edges. Using your paper cutter, cut each side of the quilt to make a straight and even line. The paper quilt is complete. 
    
    

16. Step 14

    Use the finished quilt on a project.

Dryer Sheet Technique

A fuzzy and glittery focal point makes your card unique!

Supplies

• Used Dryer Sheet
• Xyron® or spray adhesive
• Glitter (Dazzling Diamonds used here)
• Stamps that will show well through dryer sheet
• Inks or Embellishments of choice (here organdy ribbon, brads, ticket corner punch, Chocolate Chip and Old Olive ink)
• Cardstock (here Chocolate, Red, Olive and Whisper White)
• Paper Trimmer

Step-by-Step

1. Step 1

   Stamp image on neutral cardstock.
   

2. Step 2

   Color image or parts of image if desired.
   
3. 

4. Step 3

   Run image upside down through Xyron™ machine to make the front side sticky.
   
5. 

6. Step 4

   Peel backing from image and apply used dryer sheet over exposed adhesive.
   
7. 

8. Step 4

   Peel backing from image and apply used dryer sheet over exposed adhesive.
   
9. 

10. Step 5

    Trim dryer sheet.
    

11. Step 6

    Pour Dazzling Diamonds™ glitter over top of image.
    
12. Rub glitter into dryer sheet.
    

13. Step 7

    Tap off excess glitter.
    

14. Step 8

    Finish your card.

• Art-Stamp Images
• Dark Colored Cardstock
or Silhouette Paper
• Perfect Pearls
• Perfect Pearls Medium
or VersaMark Ink
• Brushes and/or Feather Duster
• Spray Fixative

Basic Steps

Apply Perfect Medium or VersaMark.

Then, stamp on paper.

Step 1: Apply Perfect Medium
to a rubber stamp,
then stamp on paper.
Dark colored paper or silhouette
paper works best with this technique
but is not always necessary.
If you are using light colored
paper make sure you are not
using interference pigments.

Apply Perfect Pearls to Stamped Image.

Step 2: Apply Perfect Pearls™

Lightly dip the smaller brush into one of the jars
(only a small amount is needed).
Gently dust the stamped image with the pigment.

If applying more than one color,
apply additional colors carefully and sparingly,
only using what is needed.

Remove excess pigment. The Stampin Place.com

Step 3: Remove excess pigment.
Use the larger brush to 'wisk' away the excess powder.
Try using a feather duster or dusting brush to remove
excess when finished.

Step 4: Spray with Fixative to set.
Spray with a matte spray fixative, such as hairspray, Krylon or Blair, to set the pigments.
